Salt & Light

Matthew‬ 5:13-14

‘You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Matthew‬ 5:13-14‬ NIV‬‬

Every Christian is called by God to be an influence on the world around them. Jesus began teaching this concept early in His ministry when He told His disciples that He would make them fishers of men. Then He used the illustrations of salt and light. Both salt and light have properties which affect things around them.

Salt is used to enhance flavor, and as a preservative. To be salt means to deliberately seek to influence the people in one's life by showing them the unconditional love of Christ through good deeds.

Light is a symbol used to mean awareness, knowledge, and understanding. To be light means to be a witness to others concerning the truth of God's Word, especially about who Christ is and how He died and rose again for our salvation.

As God's redeemed people, we possess the Word of God, and were salt and light in the world. Gradually, throughout Jesus teaching ministry, He refined this idea that each one who followed Him was to have a spiritual impact on those around them. He has sent us out to everyone around us to share His mercy and grace and their need of repentance and the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Let us live our lives unto the Lord and to His praise and glory, so that we may not waste this life of ours, but be a worthy witness to the goodness and grace of our heavenly Father, Who loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.

In humility and submission to God, we work for right relations, for merciful actions, and for peace. When we live as people of blessing, we are salt and light in the workplace, in our homes, and in our nation. So be encouraged today. You are precious, valuable, and you are the preservative that God is using in the earth today. Go and be the Salt of the Earth!!!

Father thank You for this day and Your Word of life that sustains us. Lord open the windows of heaven and pour out Your abundant blessings upon us and our family today. Lord we pray that we may be a worthy witness and become salt and light in this world to Your glory. Lord Help us to be Your light of joy and salvation that will help others come to know You. Lord we pray that our words and actions and all that we are will be seasoned with salt and that You would use us to be a witness to your goodness and grace.

Father we love you amen !
