Holy Understanding-Fear The Lord

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭10

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Good parents always want the best for their children. They want them to flourish and prosper, and parents will often try to teach their children the values in life that they themselves have treasured.

Too often, however, the things that are valued by earthly parents come from the fleeting pleasures of this world and pander to the lust of the flesh and the pride of life, but in the book of Proverbs, we discover king Solomon giving wise advice to his son which we would all do well to consider and reflect upon.

Solomon had discovered that a reverential fear of the Lord is the first step towards Godly wisdom and understanding which alone provides the fulfilment in life we all seek. His advice to his son was to search for Godly wisdom with the same determined tenacity that one would search for precious silver or hidden jewels, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

He exhorted his son to diligently seek her out as one would painstakingly search for hidden treasures for a knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and has eternal consequences. He emphasizes that the fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One leads to understanding.

So a reminder to us, in our lives, wisdom flows from worship. I just love the second part of this verse that says, “The knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Oh, what a beautiful phrase for those who want insight to be able to have a proper perspective on our lives and proper understanding of different circumstances in our lives, different decisions we make in our lives, and just to see rightly in the world around us.

“The knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” So let’s live today like this is the one thing we want to boast in, knowing God, and as we know Him, to realize that flowing from the knowledge of Him and the fear of Him is insight and wisdom that we all need in this world.

To know Christ Jesus our Lord is to know God Himself, for He is the exact image of the invisible God. Christ has made known to us the Father and the Father has unveiled to us the Son in the person of Jesus Christ for in Him dwells all the might, majesty, dominion, power, and fullness of the Godhead bodily and by grace through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord we have been saved and made one with Him.

We can look for wisdom from many worthless sources and in many futile places. Ultimate wisdom is found only when we intentionally humble ourselves before our incredible God, giving him the reverence and worship he deserves. When we do, we can be assured of this promise!!!

Father thank You for this day and for giving us an understanding heart, a fear of Your great and glorious majesty, and an increasing knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Lord open the windows of heaven and rain down abundant over my friend and family today. Lord for the more we know You and the power of Your Resurrection, and the more we fellowship in Your suffering and pain, the more we will understand Your eternal character and Your unsurpassed attributes to Your praise and glory. Lord use my friend to be blessing someone needs today.
