Justice, Mercy and Humility

‭‭Micah‬ ‭6‬:‭8

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

‭‭Micah‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Whenever we see God say in His Word, “Here’s what the Lord requires of you,” we should sit up and pay special attention. This is God telling us what is good and what is required of us to do justice. God requires us to love kindness. God requires this of you and me and to walk humbly with Him.

The Law could never perfect the worshipers and provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship God, year after year. The good sacrifices of the Mosaic Law foreshadowed the Lord Christ Jesus, Who is the better Sacrifice. The Law of Moses was to prepare the way for the gospel of grace, it was a schoolmaster to point us to Christ.

I imagine some of the religious folk having a problem with that simplified version of faith. Or maybe agreeing but wanting to add a few hundred rules to it. But Micah clearly communicated God’s desire through that prophesy, just three things are required, justice, mercy and humility.

It’s interesting to note that although there is action involved, each of these requirements starts with a soft and loving heart. We won’t act justly if we harbor resentment or hate. We won’t show kindness and mercy if we seek to serve ourselves. And a prideful heart will always walk ahead of God.

Sometimes what we need to do is very simple and plain, isn't it? We need to handle those around us justly practicing patience and dealing with others in fairness, without partiality. We need to practice mercy, blessing others in need with what they don't deserve but so greatly need.

It is only those that have trusted Christ as Saviour who are able to act justly and be merciful and walk humbly before their God. Only those that are born from above have been endowed with the new-life in Christ, the Godly nature of Christ Jesus. Only believers are imputed with His righteousness which alone can act justly, love faithfulness, and walk humbly before God.

If a born-again believer chooses to live their life from the source of the old sin nature, he will never do that which is pleasing in the sight of God. Only as a believer lives his life from the source of the new life in Christ is he able, through the power or His Spirit, to the glory of God the Father. May we choose to walk in the Spirit today, and in His strength and for His glory, let us act justly, love faithfulness, and walk humbly before God.

If God’s pursued the hearts of His children for thousands of years, He is certainly still pursuing yours and mine. And we won’t find a relationship with Him through routine obedience or service. In fact, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, so those who believe in Him could have God’s presence residing in us, the closest relationship possible.

If you are facing a choice today that’s kept you frozen in indecision, I pray God’s Word encourages you. Maybe it really is this simple. Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly with God. Now, the choice is yours!!!

Father, thank You for this day and please make of us what You Will today. Lord, let Your abundant blessings pour out over my friend and family today. Lord as You fashion us, please empower us as we seek to be a people of justice, mercy, and humility. It is our desire to walk humbly before You all the days of our lives. Lord use us to be the touch of Your love someone needs today.

Father, we love You. Amen. !
