The Breath of God

Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭1‬-‭6‬

“God grabbed me. God’s Spirit took me up and set me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them—a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain—dry bones, bleached by the sun. He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Master God, only you know that.” He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones: ‘Dry bones, listen to the Message of God!’” God, the Master, told the dry bones, “Watch this: I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life. I’ll attach sinews to you, put meat on your bones, cover you with skin, and breathe life into you. You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!””

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

These verses paint a vivid picture of God's power to bring life from death, a powerful message of hope and restoration. The prophet is shown a valley filled with dry bones, representing a people in spiritual despair.

God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones, promising them life and a return to their land. These verses remind us that even in the face of what seems impossible, God's grace can transform despair into joy, death into life, and hopelessness into hope.

Lost loved ones. Lost jobs and businesses. Political chaos. Racial unrest. A sense that life has changed, and some of the things we miss the most may never be coming back. Dry bones, hopeless, lifeless, silent. Just existing, nothing more.

So was Ezekiel, then the Lord takes a hand. He commands Ezekiel to call out to the bones. Ezekiel does as he’s told. He gives God’s Word to the bones. And then it starts. A rattling noise. The bones are slithering together across the valley floor.

Sinews, tendons, flesh and organs, appearing where they used to be. Organs, skin and hair. And finally, breath. Not just just any breath but the breath of life that makes us truly alive again, the Holy Spirit of God who comes to us and makes these dry bones live.

We are dry bones that were robbed of the life that God has so graciously given us because of our sin. Yet, He loved us enough to give us another chance, but that would ultimately cost Him His Son’s life.

The Lord is showing us that nothing is too big or impossible for Him and that we are never too far gone for His love. He could have left us where we were, but He didn't. Instead, He chose to breathe life back into our thirsty bones.

We were bones once lifeless, godless, and worthless, yet now we are proof that God is stronger than death and stronger than any sin. Because we are united to him in the Spirit, we have passed from death to eternal life!!!

Father thank You for this day and the breath of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Lord let Your abundant blessings be my friend and family’s portion today. Lord just as You breathed life into those lifeless bones, we pray for Your divine restoration in our lives and in the lives of those we hold dear. Lord seek Your breath of life where we feel dry, hopeless, and broken, and in our hearts, minds, and bodies, Lord, breathe Your Spirit and revive us, fill us with the power to stand strong in faith, ready to fulfill Your Will. Lord let Your Word and Spirit bring life where there is death, and let Your promises be fulfilled in our lives. Lord use my friend to be a blessing that someone needs today.

Father, we love You. Amen !
