Isaiah 4:5-6
“Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.”
Isaiah 4:5-6 NIV
In the Millennium, the Lord will restore the fruitfulness of the land and draw close to His people. Isaiah compared it to when God led the Children of Israel through the wilderness. Every dwelling place will be blessed with the very real presence of God, symbolized by Isaiah’s reference to a cloud of glory by day and a pillar of fire by night. For upon all the glory shall be a defense, means that God’s protection will cover His people like a canopy. In countries that often experience violent storms as well as intolerable heat, such as the areas near Jerusalem, a portable tent or tabernacle is a necessary part of a traveler’s baggage. It helps to shelter and protect. This protection can be compared to the Lord, who is our ever-present shelter and bulwark. During the Millennial Reign, the Lord’s children will be safe and secure, abiding always in the presence of the Lord without fear or harm. What is the glory of God? It is who God is. It is the essence of His nature, the weight of His importance, the radiance of His splendor, the demonstration of His power, the atmosphere of His presence. The bridal canopy is a multifaceted symbol. It is a home, a garment and a bed covering. Its openness recalls the tent of the biblical Abraham, a paragon of hospitality, who kept his tents open on all sides so that visitors would know they were welcome. The tabernacle built in the desert to house the presence of God is described as a bridal canopy. 4:6 makes it clear, during life’s storms, God is our hiding place and shelter from the storm. He is our refuge in difficult times. And He’s the One we run to for protection when life becomes too much. What a comfort it is to know God, the Creator of the universe is ready to take us under His wings, give us a hiding place, and cover us with His grace. As the storm rages on around you, run to Him and take refuge under His wings until the destruction passes by. Praise God that judgment doesn’t have to be the end of the story for each of us. There is a reason that the Bible, the inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of God and God’s very revelation of Himself to all humanity ends in exactly the way it does in Revelation 22:21. Not on a note of judgment, but on a note of mercy.“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” That is the ultimate happy ending for all time!!!
