Colossians 4:5-6
Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:5-6, NKJV
In this text we are reminded what our speech is to be like when speaking to nonbelievers and believers. As the people of God, when we open our mouth, we should be speaking words that are seasoned with the salt of God's grace.
In other words, there should be evidence of God's grace and His influence upon our hearts through the words that flow out of our mouth. Yes, what we speak should not only be pleasant, but it should also reflect who we are in God as the salt of the earth. When we were unsaved and separated from God, we spoke what we wanted, when we wanted, and how we wanted. Not so now that we have been born again by God's grace.
In these perilous times in which we live, we need God's wisdom as we go out with the gospel to evangelize to those who are lost. Indeed, our words must be seasoned with God's grace and divine wisdom. People of God, we must choose carefully the words we speak and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks. In our time when social media echoes with mean-spirited, ugly, and divisive words, we must hear the Lord's warning about choosing our words carefully.
Paul challenged us to be even more vigilant about what we say and how we say it, The apostle emphasized how significant our influence is on those who don't know Christ. We want to seize every opportunity to open the hearts of unbelievers to Jesus. The eternal destiny of those around may be resting on our conversations with them.
Let's season our speech with care. Let's take advantage of every opportunity we have to open the hearts of others to the grace of Jesus!!!
Father, thank You for this day and the breath of Your Word that sustains us. Lord, open the floodgates of heaven and flood Your abundant blessings over us and our family today. Lord, please help us to seek to display a winsome attitude with all people, but especially toward those who do not yet know you as their Lord and Savior. Lord, thank You for pouring out every single drop of grace at Calvary for us. Lord, may Your grace be what pours out of us. Lord, use our words to be the salt and light of Your words for others to feast on and find eternal life.
Father, we love You. Amen.
