Psalms 149:1-4 NIV
“Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.”
Psalms 149:1-4 NIV
God wants to constantly give us new songs to worship Him with so that our worship is always alive and fresh. Too often believers get stuck in a certain style, like certain praise songs or certain hymns, and they live in the past. If worship is not fresh, it will become mechanical, but new songs remind us that God is working now and speaking to His people. David tells us that God desires creativity in “new songs” and wants us to join Him in creating and developing these songs. New songs that have never been heard before, original, distinct, newly fashioned, and designed by us, just for the worship of Him. Sometimes we can sing a “new song” simply by meditating more closely on the words we’ve grown so familiar with, remembering again the truth of them. God crowns the humble with salvation. One of the requirements in becoming a Christian is that we humble ourselves before God. We must believe that He is God and that we are His creation. This means that we will allow Him to be Lord over us and our lives. What He says is always right and if we disagree, we are wrong. For us to acknowledge that Jesus is Lord is necessary for us in accepting Him as our Savior. Jesus Himself said that when we have done all He has commanded us, we are still unprofitable servants. We owe him our all. And because our hearts overflow with gratitude, the daylight hours will not be able to contain our praise. Even lying in our beds, we will keep up a constant flow of praise for the goodness of our God. Jesus is our example of humility. He gave up all the glories of heaven and came to earth to live as one of us, human in every way, and then took our sin upon himself when he died on the cross. He suffered for our transgressions. While He was here He served others. Humility is often learned by hard experiences, when we fail or when we have lost everything or when others outperform us and we realize how small we are. If we ever think we have arrived at being humble, we probably have just lost it. Praise Him for the gift of His salvation. He has given us beauty for ashes and joy for mourning. Bask in His delight. Let all that is within you bless His holy name!!!
