Perfect peace

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭2‬-‭4

“Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Allowing ourselves to dwell on stressful things like war, economic crisis, and tragedy invites anxiety. But the Lord has a better way. Jesus assured us that though we would face difficulty, we could rest in Him. However, we cannot trust someone we don’t know. For this reason, we should seek to find out who God is. Truths from Scripture are a good place to start. Trust is something that many people struggle with, especially in difficult situations. How can we trust that things will work out, when we have no idea what the outcome may be? How can we believe in a God who we cannot see? Trust in God is something that we all need to grow in. Trust in the Lord is believing in Him and His Word realizing that He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and is present everywhere. God is omnipresent, unchangeable, and has everlasting strength. He is our eternal rock, our Rock of Ages. In Him, we find protection and shelter He provides us with rock-solid security. When we rely on God, we find internal peace. Peace is what people have yearned for down through the ages, and in this passage of scripture, the nation of Israel has just been given a glorious promise from God of His perfect peace if only their minds are stayed on Him. Like Israel, we too are reminded that righteousness and peace embrace each other and that the fruit of righteousness is God's perfect peace, peace with God and the peace of God. And it was at Calvary that righteousness and peace kissed each other in Christ for without righteousness there can be no peace, and without peace there is no righteousness. Jesus tells us that in Him we can experience peace. In order for us to know what that shalom was like in the Garden of Eden prior to the fall, we must go to Christ, because it is only in Him that we will experience it. And so like Israel, we are called to trust in the Lord, our Righteousness, forever and ever, and the Son of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings. We are called to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to lean upon our own understanding, because the Lord our God is our everlasting Rock. He is our Fortress in times of trouble and He is our exceedingly great reward. Isaiah reminds us that Adonai is our Rock, our everlasting Strength. He is the One who we can always count on, and trust. He is our constant companion and He will never let us down!!!
