Humility, Contrition, Trembling

Isaiah‬ ‭66‬:‭1‬-‭2‬

“This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭66‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God highly esteems the humble and contrite in spirit. I believe that means you. If you are taking time to quiet yourself before God, if you are reading this devotional, you are saying, I need God. Think with me about the fact that the God of all creation has these feelings of esteem. Let the words sink into your mind. God esteems you. God thinks highly of you, favors you and regards you. Now our ears should immediately perk up when we hear God say, “This is the one to whom I will look.” Who is God looking for? And the answer is, two things, he who is humble, contrite and repentant in spirit. So, humility, contrition before God, and secondly who trembles at His Word. When you hear the Word of God, there’s a sense of awe, reverence, and trembling. Because of who is speaking it, God, this is His Word. We open the bible, and is not the words of man, this is the Word of God. God is speaking, so we tremble before it, because of who is speaking. And because we know there’s a weight that comes with it. That we are accountable for obeying it. So, this is who God is looking for. This is what God is looking for in our lives. God looks for servants He can send out to accomplish His Holy work. But they must assume a certain posture of heart. God says that He will look with favor to a particular kind of person the one who is humble, contrite, and God-fearing. Since God first spoke these words, these timeless requirements have remained the same. Over the centuries, nothing has changed. God still demands the humility, contrition, and soul-trembling of His servants. Those who take His Word lightly will be passed over in His service. Those who are self-elevating will be set aside. But those who submit themselves to the Lord will be used for His own purposes. Jesus succinctly stated, “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted” Let us lower ourselves in His Holy Presence, so we may be raised up and find favor in His glorious sight. God lifts up those who bow down. He applauds the one who is fearfully moved by His Word. What is your response to hearing the Word? Those in whom the Spirit resides tremble like a leaf blown by the wind when God speaks. God's plan was not to dwell in buildings but in the heart of man!!!

Father thank You for this day and we simply come to you, throwing ourselves at your mercy. We need your grace, God. And we exalt, we boast in the cross of Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to us and we to the world. Lord let your abundance fall over my friend and family from the storehouses of heaven. Lord thank you for Your Word which you have spoken to this us today and always. Lord  thank You for showing Your greatness over our destiny always. Lord thank You because as You are so are we and You have made the earth our footstool. Lord use my friend to be the touch of Your love and a voice of Your Word to all today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
