2 chronicles 2:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 chronicles 2:14 NIV
Humility is not our culture's most valued asset or most desired character quality. But, humility is what is demanded not so much because it's commanded, though that would be enough, but because we've earned our need of it.
Every year brings another wave of major failures in morality, character, and spirituality. Even on our best days, we all fall short of God's holiness. Rather than progressing culturally, we find ourselves slipping. Our need to approach God with humility is earned. So let's be humble and call upon the Lord, throwing off our sin and seeking after Him.
We want God to heal our land, and we want our nation to change. But as we look at the problems in our country, we want to point at someone else a lot of times. We say the problems are due to Washington, DC, or Hollywood or the White House. But God says the source of the problems is His house, the church.
God lays out His prescription in 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Notice God says, "If My people who are called by My name" He doesn't say a thing about secular culture. He talks to His own people. That is you. That is me. "If My people…
One of the problems in our nation today is there are a lot of people who think they are Christians, but they really are not. In fact, the Bible says, Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you unless indeed you are disqualified.
Then there are those who are living a double life. They put on a good performance at church. They say all the right things. But they are living a life that is completely contradictory to what the Bible says about how a Christian ought to live. A spiritual awakening starts with God's people. It starts with you and me. If we want our churches and our country to see revival, today is the day to seek the Holy Spirit.
If we want our communities to see a mighty outpouring of His power, today is the day to seek Jesus. If God is tugging at our heart today, we need to humble ourselves, pray and seek God's face, turn from our wicked ways and we will hear from heaven and God will forgive our sins and heal our lives, families, churches, communities and our country. And then there can be once more a great revival.
Revival does not come from the White House but from God's people in the church house. We are the people of God. We are Christians, known by the name of Jesus. We need to pray, and ask God to come down and pour His Spirit out to turn the hearts of people towards Himself, to open their blind eyes, to set the captives free. We as the people of God need to humble ourselves, repent, and seek God.
Let’s remember that the truest application of this must find its home in us and in our churches. We can begin revival in our land if we will commit to daily prayer, weekly fasting, and hearts yearning for God to enter our world and transform it.
Church buildings will not attract many people, but fire in the hearts of holy people who worship and witness in them will. Christians who carry large Bibles will not attract many people, but people who are right with God will!!!
Father, thank You for this day and for Your Word and the truth that it contains. Lord, open the storehouses of Your abundant blessings and let them flow over my friend and family today. Lord, how we praise You for the faithfulness that You show to Your people and for the goodness and grace You have bestowed on the Church. Lord, thank You for the many lessons that we learn from Your Word - Your goodness and grace, Your righteous character, Your merciful nature and faithfulness. Lord, keep us faithful in prayer for those in authority, for kings and presidents, for nations and for Your people. Lord, we come humbling asking that you reassert yourself in our nation at this time in clearly recognizable ways. Lord, use us to be salt and light in this dark decaying world.
Father, we love You. Amen
