Psalms 27:4-9,14
“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.”“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalms 27:4-9,14 NIV
Every day people make requests of God. They are constantly asking God for something. The majority of people are asking for something for themselves. It could be for provision of food or finances, or for healing, or a repair of a relationship, or for direction or for nearly an infinite list of things both physical and non-physical.
Others will spend time in prayer asking God for things for other people. The same list of things requested for the individual will also be for others. These requests can be for loved ones, friends, enemies, or even unknown people.
There is nothing wrong with making these types of requests of God. No one is to worry about anything, but just to bring it before God. David, had brought a different type of request to God. That request was to be able to dwell in His house everyday and to be able to gaze upon Him.
What could be better than being in God’s presence? When you are in His presence, you will be filled with His glory and majesty. You will be overwhelmed at His love and holiness. I think of all the things you would want to ask God for.
David says, this is the one thing that I want most, that I will seek after. When I think about it, what is the one thing you are seeking after today in your life? If you had to sum it up, what’s the one thing you want most in a way that’s evident in how you spend your time and money and energy?
What excites your affections? What’s the one thing you want that you’re seeking after? And David says, it’s this, and I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life that I may just be with God and gaze upon His beauty. I want to do all these things for God.
The one thing I want most, the one thing I’m seeking after is just to look at Him, just behold God and to inquire in His temple. So this picture of inquiring before God, God, as I look to you, I inquire of you. I ask for things from you.
When surrounded by enemies or forsaken by friends, we are to look to Christ. We are to walk in His way, trust Him in all things, and in everything by prayer, praise, and supplication, make our requests known to God. And we are to wait for His perfect time. We are to wait for the Lord.
We are to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. We are to take courage in our hearts and look to Jesus, and we will not only discover Him to be the strength of our life, but the Light to our Christian walk, and salvation for our soul!!!
Father thank You for this day and the many psalms of David, for the many truths they contain, and the important lessons we need to learn and apply. Lord let Your abundant blessings pour over my friend and family today. Lord help us to maintain our trust in You alone and to wait for Your timing. Lord give us courage in all we say and do, hope in our hearts, peace in our souls, and teachable spirits. Lord use my friend to be someone’s blessing today.
Father, we love You. Amen !
