1 Peter 2:9-10
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 NIV
We once lived in darkness on a road that led to eternal death. Now we’ve been called out into marvelous light and a road that leads to eternal life. We experience eternal life even right now and we have been made all these things that these scriptures describe.
But, what a great way to start the day. Sometimes you have to get your but in gear. Sometimes you need to be reminded that God put a but in the story. BUT YOU! Now it’s personal.
Today we’re going to talk about you. There’s only one you. There’s not another person on the planet with your personality, your exact DNA, eye color, or fingerprint. You are uniquely loved and chosen by God. We all need to be reminded who we are, and not by all the voices from people who don’t believe in us.
Not from jokers from our past who want to blame us for their failures. Not from the lies of the enemy. Not from a stupid choice you made that you keep thinking about. You need to hear the voice of God over your life today. You are chosen. Brought into a new family, a new nation with a new King.
You are a special possession belonging to One who brought you out of your dark past into a new, bright reality where His light shines and makes every shadow of doubt, fear, and insecurity run for cover. We are chosen by God to be His holy people, part of His royal family.
God wants us to live as His priests, declaring the goodness of God to a world trapped in darkness. We are equipped to do this because we know our identity as God's people, His children, who are made for this purpose. We show others God's goodness because God has blessed us with His mercy, and we want to share it with others. We refuse to let the low standards of the world around us drag us down into its darkness.
Instead, we choose to reflect God's light, mercy, and goodness to those around us. As God's chosen people, His priests, we enter every relationship with a specific purpose; we want to bring His blessing to the people around us. We realize that we are God's redemptive touch that He wants to be shared with the people in our lives.
As a royal priesthood, we are kings and priests unto God. We have been declared righteous in His sight. Because of our union with Christ, all that we say and do should be in keeping with the heavenly privilege bestowed upon us.
Our character and conduct should reflect the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, for by His grace and through faith in Him, we have been given access into the throne room of God. We can stand in the very presence of the Almighty because we are eternally identified with Jesus Christ the Son of God, Who is God the Son.
Our worship, praise, and thanksgiving, will resound throughout the eternal ages to come because God has graciously called us out of the darkness of sin and death, and a life without Christ, into the glorious light of His holy presence and eternal light and love.
I want us to remember, we are CHOSEN. We are royal. We belong to Jesus. We are a part of a priesthood. We are a special possession to God. We are liberated from sin and death. This is who we are!!!
Father, thank You for this day for including us as one of Your chosen servants. Lord, let your abundant blessings shower over my friend and family today. Enable us in the power of the Holy Spirit to be a good and faithful witness to You in our earthly walk. May You be glorified and exulted in our lives, and in all we say and do. Lord, we pray that we may sing forth Your eternal praises and glory, from this day forward and for evermore. Lord use us to boldly proclaim Your mercy and grace to all today. Be a blessing.
Father, we love You. Amen !
