God’s Desire For Mankind: UNITY

Psalms‬ ‭133:1-3

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭133:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In our fallen and broken world, it is likely that we are more familiar with division than we are with unity. The sad reality is that many of us have become so used to division and so desensitized to its damaging consequences simply because our world reeks of division.

Unity in the body of the church is a tremendous duty and blessing, because our God insists upon it. One of the hardest things in life is to get along with others. We are all different, and we will have our own opinions. Also, disagreements and disapproval of what others do may cause strife.

It is not always easy to get along with others, including believers. However, some of the worst damage done to Christianity is the feuding, fussing, and fuming done among believers. The world sees it, and it becomes a black eye for the cause of Christ.

It takes Christian maturity and often much humbleness, but for Christ’s sake and His cause, we must try to love our fellow believers. It can be most pleasant when we get along with believing family members. There is something both delightful and refreshing about unity among believers.

When senseless divisions are removed and long standing conflicts are resolved, unity breaks through and love wins. For example, most people delight in beautiful ambiance, romantic music, fine wine, and a sumptuous meal. These are considered the finer things of life.

But God defines the finest of all delights, the unity of the church. In a time in which the world seems to be continually disunified, where is God asking you to join with Him in bringing forth the fruit of His Kingdom? Where is He inviting you to initiate, experience, and witness unity?

After all, how good and pleasant it is when brethren, families, neighbors, communities, churches, schools, work places, live in unity. We know that each one of us is saved only by the grace of Jesus.

This means that none of us deserves salvation and yet we receive salvation anyway. We can live in unity by the power of that grace.

Though our relationships can be a source of pain and frustration, when we are living and working together in unity, this can be “very good and pleasant.” That’s what we learn from Psalm 133. Working, leading, and sharing life with others can be a generous and delightful gift of God!!!

Father thank You for this day and the breath of Your life sustaining Word. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow over my friend and family today. Lord help us dwell in unity with our brothers and sisters and to make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit. Lord give us a heart of love like Your heart of love. Lord keep us from every thinking that we are more important than others or that our ideas and our thinking is more important than theirs. Lord help us stand for and teach the truth but always in the spirit of love, and protect us from wanton discord, disunity or division and help all Your children to stand firm in the faith. Lord use my friend to be a bold witness of the kingdom of God being at hand to all today. Be a blessing.

Father, we love You. Amen !
