Co-Heirs

Romans 8:16-17

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

Romans 8:16-17 NIV

We can believe that we are God's children. We can think it. We can desire it with all of our hearts. We can pray for it. But, the real validation happens when the Holy Spirit joins with the spirit inside of each of us to speak to God, the Father of all grace. The Spirit's words are simple, "O Father, hear the heart of your child!" The Spirit then makes clear the emotions and needs of the believer in that moment.

Man is made up of body, soul, and spirit, and the human spirit of man is that inner part of our being that communes with the Father. Only believers have a living regenerated spirit that can have fellowship with the Father and abide in Christ, for unsaved man remains spiritually dead in trespasses and sins, without God and without hope in the world.

The indwelling Holy Spirit of God was given to each regenerated child of God at the moment of rebirth. He took up permanent residence within the heart of all those that believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and we are being built into the temple of God – created with living stones, as Christ's witnesses to the world.

When we live and move and have our being to the glory of God, in submission to the Holy Spirit, and with Christ as our central delight and joy, the indwelling Spirit of Christ dwells in our heart as we abide in him and rest in His love.

We do not need outwards signs, visible proofs, or audible evidences of His presence in our heart. For we have His promises in the Word of His saving work of grace in our lives, and we have the permanent indwelling Spirit of Christ Who is a sure witness in our heart that we truly are the children of God.

This is perhaps one of the most liberating and encouraging passages in the Bible, telling us He gave us New Life. We have worth, satisfaction, enrichment, entitlement and purpose because of Christ. We have a reason to press on in life and service. We have no condemnation as His child. Because of this great comfort why would we desire to live away from His presence?

When we keep our mind on Him, we attain a magnitude of peace and a glimpse of His glory that helps empower and give us confidence in all situations. Since the Spirit of God is living in us, we must be on guard against our lust and evil desires so our mind is on Christ and not on our selfish desires. We cannot do this on our own, which is why we must also rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us!!!

Father thank You for this day and the indwelling Holy Spirit and His witness with our human Spirits. Lord let Your abundant blessings pour out upon my friend and family today. Lord we we want to abide in You and You in us so that Your Holy Spirit will have free access to teach to us and to guide us into all truth. Lord use my friend to be a bold witness of Your love to all today. Be a blessing.

Father, we love You. Amen !
