Isaiah 43:18-19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV
Sometimes it hard to get over the past, someone wronged you, you got so far into debt you didn’t see a way out. The enemy wants you to dwell on those situations so you will look through Gods blessings that are all around you. Are you going through a difficult time right now? Are you struggling to get out of bed? Or do you feel stuck, lost, and alone? Sometimes when we go through trials and have hurdles to overcome, the past looks better than our present. We might even look back on the past with rose colored glasses, longing for what we had then. In this text, God is again speaking to His people concerning a new thing that He is going to do for them. In other words, things will change in the future. No, they will no longer be the same because God is including them in His future plans. God’s promise of hope that He is sending forth to all of humanity can only be received once we have purposed in our hearts to let go of the past. God’s chosen people had a choice to make, and so do we. We could meditate on our past, or we could gaze our focus upon what God has promised, and desire to do in and through our lives now and in the future. How easy is it to fall down the rabbit hole of perfectly filtered Instagram posts or Facebook? Why do we say yes to something we know is going to take us away from God? Why do we overpack our schedules? Before too long, we’re lost and wandering in the desert. We’re thirsty and parched and in need of finding our way home. We all have distractions in our lives. Those little pests waiting to wreak havoc the moment our eyes settle on it. God knows that too. That’s why He reminded us in verse 19 that He will rescue us. It reminds us no matter how far we wander, no matter the distractions or detours, God is making a way back for us. Draw a line. Instead of dwelling in the past demanding that God revive the glory days when you were satisfied and happy. Instead of dwelling in the past at everything that has gone wrong. Instead of demanding of God when is He going to start tidying up your life and bestow blessings once again and bring you happiness, change the question you ask of God. Ask instead for your eyes to be open to what He is doing, just because we cannot see God’s blessings at work does not mean He is not knitting our lives together. We are capable of utilizing our brains in such a way that we can forget the past and put it behind us. If we will utilize these 3 steps: 1. Dealing with the past (emotionally, spiritually, and relationally). 2. Choosing not to dwell on the past. 3. Choosing to dwell on a more powerful passion the future.Wherever you find yourself today, know that God is doing a new thing in your life. These verses teaches us how to embrace all He is doing. Forget the former things. Focus on the here and now, and commit to the way God is making for you today!!!
