Mark 11 : 7-11 NIV
“When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.”
Mark 11 : 7-11 NIV
While an unknown owner supplied the colt on which Jesus rode, many in the crowd offered their coats to welcome and honor Jesus as he came into town. Others spread branches showing their honor and respect for the Christ.
It is a great moment of worship, celebration, and joy. However, the real test of the crowd's loyalty came in the days that lay ahead for Jesus.
Like Christians who celebrate God's grace, Jesus love, and the Spirit's power only on Sundays, the real heart of worship was not found in the crowds who looked on Jesus with joyous admiration as he rode the colt into Jerusalem but then wanted him crucified a few days later.
Likewise, the real test for us is not in Christian assemblies on Sundays but in the dark hours of trial when our faith is confronted by another, more hostile, crowd. Should we share in the joy of Jesus glory with those who share our faith? Absolutely.
However, we must realize the real test of that faith and the authenticity of our worship will be determined by what we do when confronted by the darkness and the hostile crowd.
The people in the crowd knew the story. God had made a unilateral covenant with King David. God pledged that a member of David’s family would constantly be on the throne of Israel.
While the people waited for the Messiah, they anticipated that when He did appear He would reestablished David’s kingdom. Israel would return to its Golden Age and God’s steadfast love would once again be evident in their lives.
We long for a time of safety and security. A time when our enemies have been routed and a golden age has arrived is a common vision. We want to know without a doubt that God steadfastly loves us and will never forsake us. We want to sense that love to feel, hear and see it.
It is not necessary for us to wait for the arrival of some golden age, though, to be assured of God’s steadfast love. We can look to the cross of Christ and know. God loves us and nothing can change that.
Genuine worship seeks to please God not ourselves. So often those following Jesus seemed to be more concerned with how he could bless them. In this rare occasion, they worship Him lavishly and at a cost. Their expectations of what the Messiah would do didn’t take into account all of what the Old Testament prophets had declared.
God knows the big picture of this world and your life and He knows all the details, student, collegian, senior and housewife. Listen God’s in charge of everything. His timetable is perfect.
And when you truly crown Christ as your King, when you genuinely put your trust in Him, a true believer will say, Lord, give me what You want me to have. Rule my life according to Your will, not mine. Your will be done, so You are glorified. Not my wants, but your Word followed and obeyed in my life!!!
Father thank You for this day and for the breath that we breathe. Lord open the floodgates of Heaven an let Your abundant blessings flow over my friend and family today. Lord may our lives during the week match our worship words. Lord help us in our hearts to realize that what we do each day is an integral part of our worship. Lord we want to honor You with our hearts, our souls, our minds, and our strength every day of our lives. Lord use my friend to be a bold witness of Your love to all today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !
