With Finality

Hebrews 1:1-2
“God, having spoken to the fathers long ago in [the voices and writings of] the prophets in many separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the truth], and in many ways, has in these last days spoken [with finality] to us in [the person of One who is by His character and nature] His Son [namely Jesus], whom He appointed heir and lawful owner of all things, through whom also He created the universe [that is, the universe as a space-time-matter continuum].” Hebrews 1:1-2 AMP
God is a speaking God. He loves us and has chosen to get His message to us in words. First there were the patriarchs and great prophets. Then there was the written record in the Scriptures. But God's greatest message, His most powerful words, were living Words named Jesus of Nazareth, who is Christ and Lord of all. For us, His Church, to be what He wants us to be, we must not just look at Scripture, we must also look at Him. He is the key to understanding what Scripture means and how it is to be lived.
One of the most important lessons you and I can learn is how to listen to God. In our complex and hectic lives, nothing is more urgent, nothing more necessary, and nothing more rewarding than hearing what God has to say to us, both as a body of believers and as individual people.
You may ask, “But does God really speak to us today?” The Bible assures us He does. The book of Hebrews opens this way: “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb. 1:1-2).
Our God is not a speechless God. He’s alive and active in our world and He speaks! Furthermore, He doesn’t speak to us in veiled terms, riddles, or mysteries. He speaks to us plainly. The primary goal of any communicator is not to speak well but to be heard. God speaks in a way that we can hear Him, receive His message clearly, and understand with precision what He wants us to do.
God speaks in both general and absolute terms to all people, and He speaks to each one of us personally. We can hardly comprehend that possibility with our finite minds. God is an infinite God, and He’s capable of communicating with each one of us, right where we are in the midst of our current circumstances or crises in very personal, direct, and explicit terms.
This may be the most important concept you can ever grasp in learning how to listen to God. When God speaks, He’s speaking to you. Everything in the Bible applies to your life in some way. Every message that’s based on the Word of God has truth embedded within it that’s for you.
There’s no such thing as a chapter in the Bible, a sermon based on God’s Word, or a book that expounds and explains God’s Word that’s not for you. Each of us must take God’s Word personally.
Many know about God's Son superficially. They know about Him intellectually, historically, or emotionally, but how few take the plunge into real, God-honoring, spiritual growth as laid out in His written Word.
Let us earnestly seek to know Him more and offer our lives as a living sacrifice that is holy unto God and honours the Son, and let us permit Him to conform us into the image and likeness of the lovely Lord Jesus Christ, with every passing day.
Having been spoken to in the Scriptures, by firstly the prophets and then by Jesus Himself, should we not hunger for the Word and study to show ourselves approved, to our benefit and His glory?
If we began to truly grasp the enormity of the truth contained in this sentence, surely we would hunger to know more and enthusiastically search the Scriptures daily to discover the wonderful words that God spoke to us and the beautiful message that they contain!!!
Father, we stand amazed at the wonder of Who You are and that You should condescend to love us and rescue us from the wages of our sin. Thank You for conveying this truth to us through Your single, integrated, supernaturally inspired message of Scripture. May we study to be approved and not stand ashamed before Your throne of grace. Father thank You for the message of salvation and grace to all that You sent through the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Man. Thank You that all who believe on His name will not be condemned but have everlasting life. We will sing of Your love forever. Be a blessing. Love ya
Father, we love You. Amen
