Colossians 1:13-14
“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:13-14 NIV
Rescued! Redeemed! Forgiven! As Paul declares in this short passage, God gives us these three transforming realities in Christ. Maybe an even more crucial gift is represented by the phrase "the Son he loves." God didn't just save us with a plan, a message, or an immaculate process.
Instead, He took the one most precious to Him, who is part of Him, and reconciled us through His atoning sacrifice. The cost was enormous. The love involved was overwhelming. The result is our greatest gift. We are rescued and declared "holy in his sight, without blemish, and free from accusation"
Man is a sinner, and only a Savior is the answer to man's sin problem. Fallen man seeks answers in many different places, but God has purposed that there is one Deliverer Who can release us from the domain of darkness. There is only one Savior that can rescue us from the terrible, eternal consequences of our fallen state, the God-Man Christ Jesus.
Meeting Jesus is like flipping on the overhead light. After hours in a dim room, your eyes adjust. You don’t realize what you can see until light floods the space, revealing cracks that were previously hidden and coffee stains speckled across the carpet.
You can’t go back to seeing things as they were before. Because even if you cut the light off, you know the cracks and coffee stains are there.
Likewise, Jesus reveals who God is. And once we see that there’s no going back. In Jesus, the invisible becomes visible.
We didn’t know what we didn’t know. Then God turned on the light. He showed us who we are and gave us a way to become who we were always meant to be, His family.
You and I are precious to God. Jesus is glorious and had all power but engaged the worst of humanity and hell to deliver us from darkness and transfer us into the light of God's life and love. The glorious Creator and Sustainer of all things voluntarily gave Himself to rescue each of us.
We are, as the old song says, "precious in His sight" because "Jesus loves the little children of the world!" So, rather than believing the destructive, accusatory, self-blaming thoughts the devil puts into our hearts, let's hear who Jesus says you are: You are precious!!!
Father thank You for this and for delivering us up from the domain of darkness and transferring us into the Kingdom of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow from the storehouses of heaven over my friend and family today. Lord thank You that You died so that we might live, neither our words nor our deeds could ever repay the gift You have given us. Lord our appreciation for your sacrifice moves us to tears of joyful thanksgiving. Lord use my friend to be a bold witness of Your amazing grace to all today.
Father, we love You. Amen !
