Prepared for battle.

 Psalm‬ ‭144:1-4‬

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. O Lord, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭144:1-4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Psalm 144 is a bold reflection by David upon our relationship with the Lord, God's faithfulness to us, and ending with a blessing upon the people of God. This entire Psalm is really a quiet reflection of David upon his own life. As is consistent with David, all of the honor goes to God who continually delivered David from danger, but also blessed him greatly.  We should all be asking the same question David asked in verse 3. How quickly we tend to charge God foolishly for what we perceive He has or hasn't done for us. But, like David, we should bow down before a holy and righteous God and cry out, What is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Why did God even bother with us, there is nothing in us that would cause God to desire us. David relied on God’s wisdom, protection, and power to deliver him. He fully believed that God would guide his every decision and empower him with whatever skills he needed to fight in His name. David acknowledged that he could not carry the battle and defeat the enemy in his own strength. He clung to the sure and immovable Rock as his Defender. The same God who gave Paul the ability to preach the gospel gave David the skill to be a great general and soldier. He is the same one who gives each of us the abilities we have to do the work He has given us to do. Some are rocket scientist and some are studio recorders while others are school administrators. It is God who gives each their specific abilities and each is responsible to Him to use them in a way that brings glory to Him. Paul says the church is the body of Christ and each member of the body is unique and has special work to do but each is necessary for the whole to accomplish what God intends. So whatever our gender, our race, our social standing or any other difference, we have our place in the plan of God and each is uniquely important to the work that God has planned for us to do. None is more important than being Godly parents and grandparents. The greatest blessing we can ever receive is not a financial blessing or prosperity, but rather to be granted true life in Christ, to become children of God!!!

Father thank You for this day and Your amazing mercy and grace to walk in it. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow over my friend and family today. Lord give us a heart of service to You and help us realize that serving You means serving others around us. Lord give us wisdom to know what You have made us to do and use us to do it. Lord help us realize that as Your child we are important to You. Lord thank You for all those who do so much that we cannot do but don’t let us make excuses for not doing what we can do. Lord help us be willing to give up self and to make Your will our own in every part of our lives. Lord use my friend to help meet the needs of others today. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
