Prayer, Peace and Order

Writer: Eddie Cox Eddie Cox

 1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

One of the great truths of Christian revelation is the truth of God’s universal love for all mankind. The Cross of Christ is obviously the greatest expression of that love. These verses could not be any clearer. God has called us to pray, intercede, thank God for all people. He specifies kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified. This is good. Praying like this is good. Living like this is good. It pleases God our Savior because God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. Paul lists four types of prayer that should be used in both a communal prayer group and in one's individual prayer life, petitions, prayers, intercessions and the giving of thanks. Whether praying in public or communing with the Lord in private, prayers should be offered for all men and as believers we should recognize the distinct privilege and value in approaching our Heavenly Father in prayer. Our whole approach to God in our prayer-life should be one of reverence and thankfulness, humility, trust, and love. And we should not be biased in our prayers for we are called to pray for all, the saved and the lost, the rich and the poor, the hurting and the self-satisfied, and we are even to pray for our enemies and those that despitefully use us. But perhaps the most beautiful verse in this passage on prayer is verse 4: "God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." It is not God's will that any should perish but that all should come to a knowledge of the gospel of God and of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. Remember today that God wants a deep relationship with you. He wants you to understand the truth written in the Bible. He cares about you and He also cares about those who have yet to know Him. So spend time getting to know God better and also begin thinking about who you might tell about Jesus. Be willing to be used by God to tell someone else about the truth.  As born-again children of God, we have access to our Heavenly Father Who is a God Who hears and answers prayer. Let us boldly approach the throne of grace and make supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings on behalf of all to the glory of God!!!

Father thank You for this day and for the gift and privilege of prayer. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow from the windows of heaven over my friend and family today. Lord it is amazing to realize that by faith in Your sacrificial work on the Cross, we have been given access into the very throne room of Almighty God to intercede on behalf of others and to offer my prayers and supplications to You. Lord teach us to pray aright and help us to develop an ongoing attitude of prayerful thanksgiving and reverential praise for You alone are worthy. Lord use my friend to be the touch of Your love to all today. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
