Ephesians 5:8-9
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)”
Ephesians 5:8-9 NIV
The Scripture encourages us to behave as children of light. Our character should potray light. As believers of the Word of God and His Son Jesus, we have given up right to our old life which depicts the works of darkness and been given new life in Jesus light.
Christ is light Himself and being created in His image and likeness, He has made us the light of the world, and the salt of the earth and so the unfruitful works of darkness should not be seen in us.
Before and after that's the story of grace. "I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see." If we could only fully grasp what we so easily sing then life would be filled with more grace and our world with more confident servants of God.
We have been lifted up out of a world of deep darkness into the light of the glorious gospel of God's grace. Our walk through this life as the children of God, is to become a day-by-day lifestyle that is pleasing and honoring to the Lord.
Our life-walk should be a reflection of His goodness and grace, His righteousness and integrity, His kindness and gentleness, His truth and His sincerity to all. Our Christian life should reflect His humility and patient endurance and our life should blossom into Godly fruitfulness, reflecting the love of God in the face of Christ Jesus our Lord.
There is a world of difference between the unsaved life and the life that we have in Christ. Before salvation, we were children of the night and a product of the darkness of sin. The unsaved soul is trapped in the dungeon of sin, but by faith we can cast off the works of darkness and be clothed in His armour of light.
God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. In the beginning, He commanded the light to shine out of darkness and in the fullness of time He sent His only Son to be the Light of the world, to give light to everyone coming into the world.
He has shone the light of His love and truth into our hearts. He has given all who are born from above the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, in Jesus Christ our Lord.
It was prideful rebellion against the Lord that enslaved us to sin and entrapped us in the darkness of this world system, but we have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Our joyful calling is to glorify God in our body and in spirit, for we belong to Him.
He not only made us, but has bought us back from the slave-market of sin. We have been supernaturally delivered from the power of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of Christ. As His people, we are instructed to shun the unfruitful works of darkness and expose them.
Having been saved by grace, we are living in the light of the Lord and the fruit of His light is discovered in all that is good and righteous and godly and true.
Our union with Christ has brought us into the light of His grace and truth, and the fruit of the Spirit should be manifest in all we say and do. Let us walk in the light as He is in the light so that the fruit of His love will be displayed in all we are.
Let us live our lives as children of the light so that the light of the glorious gospel of grace may become a witness to the world that we are children of God and partakers of His divine nature. May we live in such a way that others see our holy conduct and glorify our Father in heaven.
Being translated from darkness to light and from the kingdom of Satan into God's kingdom of light, should cause each of us to rejoice evermore and to give never-ending thanks and praise for the work He has done within us.
We are admonished to exhibit true christian character, and not to live a double standard life, to live a life of the spirit thereby revealing the fruits of light which are goodness, righteousness and truth. Light directs, light attracts, light creates awareness and as people who are living as light and living in the light of Christ should exhibit these characteristics.
The world is watching us, you don’t know who is looking up to you. May we walk as children of light and shine the light of the love of God's goodness and grace into the lives of all we meet, knowing that we who were once lost in darkness, and estranged from the light of God's eternal love because of the inner darkness of our fallen nature, have, by His grace been made light in the Lord!!!
