Lacking Faith

‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭14

‘Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.“

‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This rebuke was done because, after all the evidence they had had of His resurrection, still they did not believe. This is a most important circumstance in the history of our Lord’s resurrection.

Never were people more difficult to be convinced of anything than they were of that fact. And this shows conclusively that they had not conspired to impose on the world that they had given up all for lost when He died.

That they did not expect Hisxresurrection; and all this is the strongest proof that he truly rose. They were not convinced until it was impossible for them longer to deny it.

Had they expected it, they would have caught easily at the slightest evidence, and would have turned every circumstance in favor of such an event.

It may be added that it was impossible that eleven men of good natural understanding should have been deceived in so plain a case. They had been with Jesus three years.

They perfectly knew His features, voice, manner and it is not credible that they should have been deceived by anyone who might have pretended to have been the Lord Jesus.

All of us have experienced hardships and difficulties that we know God has allowed but hasn't explained. Once we are through, we see the reason, whether for blessings or to prepare us for a greater work.

The disciples have undergone the same thing. On the third time Jesus told the disciples of His coming death. But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. Now, as Jesus explains what the Jewish Scriptures really say about the Messiah, their minds are open to understand the Scriptures.

Clearly the disciples could not understand what was hidden from them, but they, like we, should have been faithful to what they were taught.

We need to adopt Paul's charge to Timothy, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it. If we accept and act on what little we understand of God's plan, He will reveal more to us.

Jesus had been crucified, died, and rose again from the dead. Several women had seen Him after the resurrection. They told the disciples that they had seen Jesus alive, but the disciples did not believe them.

Now Jesus appears to them directly and rebukes them for not having faith and for refusing to believe the women. The disciples were described as being stubborn in that refusal.

They were adamant that Jesus did not rise from the dead. They refused to believe the words of those who had seen Jesus risen.

Today ever believer in Jesus believes that He rose from the dead. Only those who do not follow Jesus do not believe He rose from the dead. Although many believe He rose from the dead, they do not always believe the other testimonies about Jesus.

Many people struggle with believing that Jesus can heal them, or provide for them, or get them through a bad situation. They do not believe that Jesus is really in control.

Believers will give testimony about how Jesus helped them in many different ways and situations. Others will hear it, but refuse to believe that Jesus can and will do the same for them.

You may not believe you are worthy of Jesus working in your life. True, you are not worthy, but God is loving and merciful and will work in your life.

You may not believe Jesus will work in your life.

Look at the promises Jesus had made. They are for every believer. Believe in Jesus. He is faithful. Listen to the testimonies of other people and believe them. God does work in lives today. He can and will work in your life today!!!
