  Psalms‬ ‭139:23-24

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139:23-24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Very few people really like their inner thoughts to be known by other people. Most, if they are honest, probably have thoughts in their hearts that would not look good to others if they saw them. However, one type of thought that David wanted God to search for was his anxious thoughts. Being anxious about something is to be worried about something. When a person is worrying about something, he is not trusting God, which is an offensive way to Him. When he is not trusting God, he is saying that God is not good and perfect. He is not allowing God to be on the throne of his life or of this world. Verse 23 is not so much David granting the Lord permission to search his heart, the Lord hardly needs, nor asks, for such permission. He knows our hearts whether we want Him to or not. Rather, David declares himself willing and welcoming of such scrutiny by his Creator. So sure is he of his innocence, that he knows the Lord will find nothing to hold against him with regard to the matter at hand. We don’t know exactly what this matter is, but David’s words challenge us, are we so sure of the truthfulness and sincerity of our words and thoughts, that we would welcome the Lord’s examination of them? The Lord already knows our hearts, our motives, and the honesty or lack thereof of our speech. Is this something that makes us uncomfortable, or at peace? If we feel at all uncomfortable, then maybe we are harboring thoughts and motives we shouldn’t. David’s disquieting thoughts are those thoughts that cause him to be troubled, or anxious. Again, the challenge is whether we are at peace with our thought life. When the light of God’s truth is shone upon our lives, do we squirm and hide, or do we stand with confidence? Do we want our sin to be illuminated by our Heavenly Father, so He might lead us away from that path to the eternal path? Or do we want to hide our sin away, and protect it from the Lord’s cleansing grace? May we come to a deeper knowledge and understanding of the amazing nature of our awesome God, and gain a glimpse into His omniscience, His omnipotence, and His omnipresence. May we come to a deeper awareness of the beautiful attributes of our glorious God, for He is the only source of grace and truth, mercy and love, peace and hope, salvation for the soul, and life eternal!!!

Father thank You for this day and the wonderful insights that David has given us into Your perfect character. Lord open the floodgates of Your abundant blessings and rain them down upon my friend and family today. Lord thank You for Your love and grace, and that You are our all-knowing God Who knew us intimately in our mother's womb and scheduled every day of our life. Lord thank You that You are the all-powerful God Who has promised to help and protect us, uphold and support us, sustain and defend us, comfort and equip us, heal and help us. Lord we pray that You would search our hearts too and expose anything that is clouding our Christian walk and hindering our intimate relationship with You. Lord use my friend to be a bold witness of Your mercy and grace to all today. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
