Do not drift pay close attention

Hebrews‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Everyone grows out of, or slowly moves away from, interests, habits, and hobbies in their lives over time. People change, their interests change, they drift in and out of various likes, dislikes, and pastimes. What once was, may no longer be in three of four years. Words of exhortation or warnings are frequently given to Christians, as are the consequences of ignoring such words of caution. We are exhorted to walk worthy of our calling to contend earnestly for the faith to abstain from earthy lusts which war against the soul and to encourage one another while it is still called today, lest any of us are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. And having received a beautiful picture of the infinite glories, eternal excellence and unsurpassed pre-eminence of the Son of God, above all His creation, we are reminded that in these last day God has revealed Himself to us through His Son and so we are exhorted to, give more earnest heed to the Person of Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross and to pay very close attention to all that we have heard, so that we do not drift away from the truth of God's Word. How vital that we who have received the full revelation of God through the written Scriptures, do not drift away from the truth of the glorious gospel of grace, that Jesus came to accomplish on our behalf. Pastor Keanan Bovie states the following: “The comprehensive value of Scripture: All of God's Word, from cover to cover, is equally beneficial for instruction. All Scripture is, ALL. The contemporary relevance of Scripture: Although written long ago to cultures long extinct, God's Word teaches timeless principles that apply to all of humanity throughout all time. Although it was not written To You, It was written For You. The practical application of Scripture: Diligence to apply the principles taught in the Bible helps us to overcome challenges. The Gospel is not hidden under some secret rock, handshake or code.” God knows how fickle the heart of man is. He knows how easy it is for us to slowly drift away from the truth, to develop an indifference to the Word of God and a fascination for the imaginations of men. It all focuses down to one question which the writer leaves hanging in the air. How shall we escape if we neglect such great salvation? That is not a threat, it is simply a question. It is addressed both to the Christian and to the non Christian. To the non-Christian it says: Where are you going to go when life ceases. To the Christian he is saying, it is not enough that we know Jesus Christ: We must use him. We can lose so much, even knowing him, unless there is a day-by-day walk with Him. Are we giving priority to the most significant issue of time and eternity our salvation? Do we properly fear God as sovereign and righteous, while honoring His Holy Presence as our eternal Advocate? Are we standing on the solid rock of scripture?!!

Father thank You for this day and the unsurpassed pre-eminence of Jesus Christ, Who is the visible image of the invisible God and Who alone is worthy of all worship and praise. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow from the storehouses of heaven over my friend and family today. Lord thank You that You came to offer up Your own life as the ransom for many and that You died to pay the price for our sins and rose again so that sin and death is defeated forever in the lives of all who trust in You. Lord keep us We pray looking to You and may we never drift away through indifference or neglect. Lord may we walk worthy of our calling in You. Lord use my friend to be the touch of Your love to all today. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
