1 Corinthians 7:17, 20, 24
“Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them. Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.”
1 Corinthians 7:17, 20, 24 NIV
God repeats things because we need it and so we get it. Take our calling in life. Three times Paul tells the Corinthian believers as well as us today to stay put. God will use them right where they are. It is the duty of every Christian to be content with our lot in life, and to conduct ourselves in our rank and place as becomes a Christian. Our comfort and happiness depend on what we are to Christ, not what we are in the world. No man or woman should think to make their faith or religion, an argument to break through any natural or civil obligations. We. should quietly and contentedly abide in the condition in which we are placed by Divine Providence. Paul is calling each believer in these verses to walk in accordance with the gifts and graces that we have been given in Christ Jesus, to live one's Christian life in the way the Lord has called them to live, knowing that each person is accountable for his or her own choices and individual conduct. As a believer we are all accountable to the Lord and will one day stand before Him to give an account of the way we conducted ourselves, within our relationships. May we seek to walk in the way God has assigned to each of us, to the honour and glory of His Holy Name. The basic rule of the Christian life is that this calling, namely, belonging to Jesus Christ, now governs our whole life. To show them how basic this is, Paul gives two examples from totally different areas of life, ethnic background and social status. Should a Jew now change and undo his circumcision? Would that make him a better believer? No, says Paul. The question is not whether you are circumcised but whether you keep the commandments of God. Or should a slave try to become free? Would that make him a better believer? Sure, if you can gain your freedom as a slave, do so. But that does not make you a better Christian. What counts is remembering our calling, that we belong to the Lord. What counts is keeping God's commandments, being a slave to Christ. Your past, your ethnic background, or your social status does not determine whether you are a true believer. What matters is that you have been called. Let the call of the Lord determine what we do. The Lord has come into our lives and is taking us along. He has given us His promises. All our plans and decisions, our work and my relationships, ought to be ruled by that call. In that call God Himself takes us along on His way to His future. Then our labor will not be in vain!!!
Father thank You for this day and our lives and for the gifts and graces that have been given us from above. Lord let Your abundant blessings fall from the windows of heaven over my friend and family today. Lord may we walk in a way that honors You in all we do and in all our relationships. Lord may we conduct ourselves well in the situation to which You have assigned us. Lord our choices in life today be wise and honorable, as we become increasingly conformed into Your image and likeness. Lord use my friend and I today that others will begin to see You through us to the glory of Your Holy Name. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
