1 Chronicles 9:31
“A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread.”
1 Chronicles 9:31 NIV
It is significant that God, through His Word, tells us the name of this
man Mattithiah. We are also told the task he was given, to daily bake the Bread of the Presence for the temple.
Mattithiah spent time every day over the fire of anonymity doing an eternally important task. God knew his name. Mattithiah knew his calling.
I write a lot of bread for thought for those who come to share in our ministry by way of our devotionals and there distribution to their families: garlic bread, Dutch oven bread, multi-grain bread, rolls, sweet and savory replaced with God’s Word of life and my conversation with Him.
It is easy to fall into the trap of believing what I am doing is “nothing important.” Yet, God takes these offerings and uses them to bless and delight others as He prepares them to hear His Word. Bread can serve to lead us into His presence.
God calls us by name.
God has gifted us by His own choice, so use those gifts for Him, no matter how normal they may seem to you. Build a spreadsheet, fix a tractor, cuddle a baby, design a building, bake some bread. He lifts our gifts out of obscurity and into the realm of faithful service to Him. He doesn’t forget our names, and He won’t forget the gifts we offer to others in His name. One day, we shall stand before Him with Mattithiah and hear, “Well done,” and perhaps, “That was mighty good bread.”
This verse spotlights one man, Mattithiah, whose faithful, hereditary service kept the holy bread before God day by day. As the firstborn Korahite, he bore both the privilege and the responsibility of stewardship. His quiet task underscores that worship requires dependable servants, that God redeems imperfect family histories, and that every act of obedience—even baking bread—points to the Lord who continually provides for and dwells with His people!!!
Father, thank You for gifting Your children with work to do for Your name and for Your glory. May we be found faithful to You in every task. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Love ya be a blessing
