Contented Living

  Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬-‭6‬

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?””

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

These days we are all being consumed by impressions. We think that, in order to be somebody, we need to fit into the world’s image of what is acceptable. Being well-to-do, or at least appearing so, gives the message that we are capable, perfect and worthy of respect, love and appreciation. Modern man has become consumed by superficialities. Money and ‘stuff’ rarely lasts and, if you are trying to impress by pretending you are something you’re not, you will eventually be caught out. We need to look perfect, perfectly groomed, perfectly trim, dressed in the right brand of clothes, driving the right car, living in the right area, mingling with the right people and, of course, the ultimate perfect thing, to do all the right things. By this I mean, we must be involved in a church, we must give our share to charity, we must support a cause, etc. But all these, my friends, are just over spray, pretty colors to hide behind and make us feel that we belong somewhere. Truth is, if all those pretty layers of superficialities are removed, we will be an empty shell, nothing, because our motives for becoming perfect and acceptable were selfish. The direction of our life, the tenor of our conversation, and the disposition of our hearts should always be pleasing to the Lord, for we are God’s children. We are to be holy for God is Holy. We are to be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. We are to grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, as, in the power of the Holy Spirit, we are being transformed into His image, day by day. This would be different if we have accepted the salvation of God, offered so freely. If our heart is filled with the glory of God and the love of Jesus Christ, we will not need all those trimmings to make us feel special. God gives us the guarantee that He will never leave us or abandon us and that we can do anything if we have faith. Inner contentment is a significant key in achieving this Godly objective. Hearts that seek the Lord learn to be satisfied in every situation of life and the person who is content is one that is not beset by envy or greed. Being comfortable with our life situation, kindling a heart that is content with our lot, and keeping ourselves from an attitude of covetousness, will enable us to live a positive Christian life. Contentment is one of the unnamed cousins of the fruit of the Spirit, for it has conquered the evil lust of covetousness which can be identified in many ungodly behavior’s, like the lusts of the world, the lusts of the flesh, and the pride of life. Contentment is the product of a God given peace that calms a troubled spirit and brings peace to a striving soul. It is found along the path that leads to purity, and is hidden in the heart of the man or woman who rests in Christ and casts all their cares upon Him. Let us ponder on these comforting words of the Lord when we are tempted to envy the life of another or allow seeds of discontent to be sown in our hearts. Let us ponder on these words, rejoice in the Lord always, and be content in Him, for He has promised, "I will never leave you nor will I forsake you!!!”

Father thank You for this day and the promise that Jesus will never leave us or forsake us. Lord ope the floodgates of Your abundant blessings and let them flow over my friend and family today. Lord we confess that there are times when we are tempted to be dissatisfied with our lives and envious of others, leaving us feeling discontented. Forgive us Lord. May we be reminded today of that most precious blessing is that You will never leave us nor forsake us. Lord remind us today, that as part of Your Bride we are one of the most blessed people on earth. Lord help us to keep our priorities in order, not looking to things of the earth for contentment but to You, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Lord use my friend to someone’s blessing today. Daddy we love you amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !!
