Hebrews 12:28-29
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.””
Hebrews 12:28-29 NIV
In the end, when it all comes down to it, the only things that remain are those who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior and God. The things of this life will pass away and be forgotten. The desires and troubles of this world will no longer exist and what was, will no longer be. Buildings eventually crumble, countries rise and fall, nothing in this world is permanent and it will one day come to an end. As Christians, however, we have something that will never come to end, we have the kingdom of God. Let us be thankful for this. Let us be thankful that whether we live or die, we have an inheritance in a kingdom to come. Let us be thankful that this kingdom was designed by the great designer, God himself. Because of all of these truths, we can be thankful for a kingdom that cannot be shaken. The kingdom of God will always be, and no ruler or natural disaster can destroy it. Think about this in relation to all the turmoil that is happening in the world with pandemics, wars, economic problems, and natural disasters. The response to this amazing truth is one of worship. Let us worship with reverence and awe because our God is a consuming fire. Our God is bigger than any skyscraper touching the tip of the sky. Our God is more powerful than the mightiest ruler. Our kingdom is ruled by the King of kings and Lord of lords. Our temporary home may be shaking under us right now, but our soon to be permanent home is standing as firm as ever. Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken or removed, we should be a grateful people who worship God not only because of the great and mighty things He has done for us, but because He is the Almighty God. While we look forward to eternity, we do not need to wait for it to experience the abundant, intimate life promised. Through Christ Jesus we have already begun eternal life. This is the perspective we should have each and every day of our lives, not focusing on the cares of this world, but focusing on the kingdom which cannot be shaken, because it is what will remain when all is said and done. May we be energized from this day forward, to give Him the glory and worship that is due to His Holy Name. May we be stimulated, in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, to offer Him the honour, praise, adoration, and thanks - for He alone is worthy!!!
