Mark 10:32-34
“They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”” Mark 10:32-34 NIV
What I want to do today is remind you of how great Jesus is, how loving He is, really is, and how committed to the mission of saving people like you and me He is.
Jesus knew that the disciples were going to struggle with everything they were about to see, hear, and feel. They were going to be afraid and confused. However, Jesus wanted to prepare them as much as they could be prepared for what was about to happen.
The same is true for you. There are going to be times where Jesus is going to pull you aside. He will get your attention through something you read in the Bible, something you heard in a sermon, something you heard on Christian podcast, or God’s wisdom from a conversation you had earlier. When God pulls you aside and speaks to you, He is preparing you for what is to come.
Theses verses show us the dedication of Jesus. He knew the precise details of what He was about to endure. As the Son of God, God the Son, and He knows exactly what is coming. And still He determined to go. He set His face toward the cross.
These verses show us the courage of Christ. There is the type of courage that responds in the moment of emergency. There is no premeditation in that type of courage. Then there is the type of courage that sees the pain and heartache and cost a long way off but still heads towards it.
Jesus, from eternity past, knew that even the act of creation would cost him his life. The Son was courageous, willing to suffer, and die.
These verses show the disciples and shows us today the sovereignty of God. He was in control. I don't know if you've ever read Psalm 22 before, but the detail is astounding. Many years before crucifixion had been invented, and many years before Jesus came, the psalmist laid out the details of Jesus' death. God was in control then, just as He is in control now.
Two things strike me powerfully about these verses and the people they describe. First, despite their great fear, Jesus followers still went with Him even though they knew danger awaited them since they were with Jesus.
This situation is a great reminder that faith can help lead us on to face life's biggest challenges even when we can't understand exactly what is going on and when we're not really ready for the challenges.
Second, Jesus knew what lay ahead for Himself, but rather than looking after His own needs, He was busy trying to prepare His followers for what lay ahead. Jesus was a servant to His followers even to the very end when he displayed the ultimate act of service and gave His life for them and also for us.
Let us be thankful. First, let us be grateful for a God who is in control. Even in chaos, He reigns supreme and is unfolding His kingdom and plan. Second, let us be thankful for a God who knowingly rushed to the cross for us. This is love. You are loved.
Father thank You for this day and the gift of life provided by Your Son on the cross. Lord open the floodgates of heaven and flood my friend and family with Your abundant blessings. Lord give those of us who follow You faith that can inspire our courage and keep us following even when we can't understand. Lord to face life's biggest challenges with question marks and confusion is very difficult for us, but we do trust that You will lead us through. Lord we ask that our faith not fail us. Lord use my friend to be someone’s blessing today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !
