1 Thessalonians 5:8-11
“But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 NIV
The "Good News" on today is the fact that God's destiny for all of us is not wrath but salvation through our Lord Christ Jesus. Getting to this destination that God has prepared for us before the foundation of the earth is only obtainable through Jesus Christ. There is no way around it. It is through Christ Jesus alone where salvation is obtained. Being children of God, we have inside information about the things that will take place in the near future as the time for Christ's return draws ever closer. We have the Scriptures as our compass, for we have received a more sure word of prophecy and as such we should be well-equipped to recognize the signs of the times in which we live, as we look for the any day return of Christ coming in the clouds for His Church. The Lord has a much loftier vantage point than we do. He sees our whole story open before Him all at once. In fact, He wrote it all the way through: “Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began. God, how precious your thoughts are to me!” (Psalm 139:16-17). Every page is filled with His love for you. He knew that there would be ups and downs. You mess up; others mess you up; and the world you walk around in is all messed up. But He has never doubted that it will all turn out well for you. Why? Because He knows His unwavering intentions for you: “For I know the plans I have for you – this is the LORD’s declaration – plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:11-13). God spoke that to His chosen Israel and if we will let Him, He’ll speak it to us. As Paul assured the Thessalonians, You were appointed for salvation. Our Lord Jesus Christ died to make that salvation available. Those who trusted Christ and obtained that salvation, will spend the rest of eternity living with Him. It can’t get much better than that! As that reality sinks deeply into faith, the ups and downs of life seem less important. Our job is to live the kind of lives He chose us for holy, blameless, in love, and before Him. He will help us at every step. And by the way, the last page of the story of your life is not heaven. It’s quite the opposite. You’ll find that all your years on earth will be only a brief Forward to the book. Chapter One, Page 1 will be the day you enter heaven. And the book has no ending!!!
Father thank You for this day and thank You for the wonderful encouragement we receive in Your written Word and the enlightenment that You have given us about these end times. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow over my friend and family today. Lord may we always look for the blessed hope when Christ returns, and in the meantime, may we continue to go forth and proclaim the gospel of grace, while there is still time. Lord we pray that many would come to faith in You due to our testimony and for Your greater praise and glory. Lord use my friend to share Your amazing grace with all today. Daddy we love you amen.
