Mark 1:9-11
“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.””
Mark 1:9-11 NIV
Here , at the beginning of His ministry, Jesus leads the way through the waters of life and death. He offers us new birth through Baptism into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is death there, yes death for our old sinful nature, death for the evil that clings to us so closely and infects our hearts and minds. And that is frightening. But it is so worth it. Through Baptism, Jesus gives us everlasting life and joy as God's own beloved children, both now and on the day He returns to raise us all from the dead. Mark has an intentional purpose in his rather brief account of Jesus’ baptism. Matthew’s account is much longer almost twice as long. But Mark simply wants to introduce us to Jesus actually, God makes the introduction. And that’s the point from the beginning of this gospel, to the end, we are supposed to see that Jesus is none other than the very Son of God. The astonishing claim of Christianity is that the same Spirit of Jesus Christ can also reside within us. The Spirit reveals the will of God and empowers us for the life God intends us to live. In Christ is therefore more than salvation for the forgiveness of sins it is also transformation for abundant living. Hence learn, That there is no possibility for a person to please God out of Christ, neither our persons nor our performances can find acceptance but through Him and for His sake that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Ground and Cause of all that love which God the Father shows to us. In Christ, God is well pleased with us, as a reconciled Father, out of Him, a consuming Fire. For thirty silent years, God had been preparing the Lord Jesus Christ for His ministry of reconciliation between God and mankind. Whatever Christ's baptism signified, whether it was His identification with sinners for whom He was to be the substitute, an act of obedience to His Father in order to fulfil the righteous requirements of the Law, a presentation of Himself as the Messiah of Israel and Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world, an act of dedication to His God and Father, or simply a picture of His forthcoming death and Resurrection
Jesus was completely submitted to God, He didn't make a move forward until the Father directed Him. He knew He was the appointed Messiah from this moment forward, and He acted with this power. But never for Himself, it was always for others. Not only to be able to accomplish great feats, but to rely completely on God. I hope would have such conviction!!!
Father thank you for this day and thank You for Jesus. Lord let Your abundant blessings flow like a river over my friend and family today. Lord thank You that You came to identify with sinners such as us, so that by faith in You, we might be forgiven of our sins and clothed in Your righteousness. Thank You that the Lord that You came to fulfil all righteousness and lifted the curse of death from all who would believe on Your Name. Lord teach us to yield more and more to Your Spirit, that our inner life might be filled with righteousness, joy and peace, and that our outward life may reflect Your love and grace to all today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !
