Arrogant pride

Isaiah‬ ‭2‬:‭17‬-‭18

“The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day, and the idols will totally disappear.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭2‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There is something about arrogant and prideful people that is naturally annoying. Their arrogance is often very irritating, and we are repelled by their actions or behaviors. We feel that way about arrogant and prideful people because that’s the way that God feels about them. Few things seem to bug God like arrogance and pride.

Arrogance and pride come because of someone thinking too highly of themselves and then attempting to exalt themselves over others, sometimes even over God. Sometimes when we get too big for our britches, we find ourselves humbled by a natural disaster, world war, incurable disease, economic depression, or widespread social disorder. Our arrogance can be a predictor of our own impending disasters. Is there a general principle of our universe at work here? Pride goes before a fall. Or is this the active discipline of God at work? I guess the answer is Yes to both of these questions. Both God and his world remind us that there is so much about our lives we can't control. This verses however, goes beyond the general principles and it promises an ultimate day when human arrogance will be eliminated and all false gods disappear. On that day, God's children will rejoice and be glad. Until then, let's walk humbly with our God. Many of us found that when we came to faith in Jesus Christ, our old friends, who were still in the world, were surprised and couldn’t believe the change in us. In fact, most thought it was just a fad or some temporary trip that we would get over. But the wonderful thing about giving it all to God is that He changes our desires and tastes. Sadly, many of us have also found that unbelieving old friends often talk behind our backs, secretly putting us down. Scripture reminds us over and over that those who persist in refusing God’s gift of eternal life will stand before the Judge of all the earth. Some situations need to be lovingly and softly confronted, while others require a loving but firm stand, out of genuine concern for the unbeliever. For most of us, someone loved us enough to pray for us and challenge our ungodly lifestyle in a way that was effective enough that we came to Christ. It is much better to humble ourselves than to wait until God does it. When we wait for God to humble us, it is always so much more painful. God doesn’t want to spank us, but He will if we won’t do what we need to. Humble yourself before God. His Word says that if we do that, He will exalt us in due time!!!

Father thank you for this day and the breath of life found in Your life sustaining Word. Lord open the windows of heaven and shine down Your abundant blessings over my friend and family today. Lord please humble us gently. Lord we don’t want to lose our keen sense of Your presence by becoming too full of ourselves. Lord we do not want to bring disaster upon ourselves or those we love. Lord help us keep an undivided heart of devotion to You out of appreciation for Your grace. Lord use my friend to be the light of Your love to all today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !
